GoCD Installation Documentation
Note: Please disregard any ''s that you see in the following documentation -
they are used to delineate between the text and any keystrokes or strings you
are to enter into the computer. Please type only the text between the ''s.
General Installation
To begin installation of GoCD change to the drive that contains GoCD, and run
GOCD.EXE. It will ask you if you wish to install a new version of GoCD onto
your hard drive. Part of GoCD must be installed on your hard drive so that
it can maintain a configuration file. Hit 'Y' to install GoCD onto your hard
drive. It then asks what drive you would like to install GoCD onto. GoCD
occupies less than 250k, so any drive should work. GoCD will then install
some data files and the Windows version into the GOCD subdirectory on that
drive. You are done installing the DOS version of GoCD. To run GoCD, change
to the GoCD subdirectory on the drive you just installed it to and run:
'GOCD'
Windows Installation
Once the general installation is done, you need to setup GoCD as an icon
under Windows. To begin, run Windows. From Program Manager, pulldown the
'File' menu and click on 'New...'. It will ask if you want to make a new
program group or a new program item (icon). Click on 'Program Group' and
then on the 'OK' button. It will then ask for the group name, title the
group 'TNA Six-Pack' and hit return (enter). It will then create the new
group and open an empty folder on the screen. Go back into the 'File' menu
and click on 'New...' again. This time, click on 'Program Item' and then on
the 'OK' button. It will open a dialog box requestion information about the
new program item. To move between the fields, use the TAB key. For
'Description' enter: 'GoCD'. For 'Command Line' enter the drive letter you
installed GoCD onto plus '\GOCD\GOCDWIN.EXE'. For example, if you installed
GoCD onto your C: drive then the 'Command Line' field would look like this:
'C:\GOCD\GOCDWIN.EXE'. For the 'Working Directory' field enter the drive you
installed GoCD onto plus '\GOCD'. So, if you installed GoCD onto the C:
drive, this field would look like this: 'C:\GOCD'. Once you have entered
that information, click on the 'OK' button. Program Manager should add the
GoCD icon to your newly created 'TNA Six-Pack' group. You are done
installing GoCD into Windows. To run GoCD, double click on the GoCD icon.
If you are having problems creating program groups or items please refer to
your Windows manual.
GoCD Program Setup
DOS Version The first time you run GoCD, you will need to setup a GIF viewer.
You have a choice here. You can use the GoCD's internal GIF viewer, or you
can setup you favorite viewer providing it has command line support for
filenames. To setup GoCD for the internal viewer press 'ALT-S' and select
the 'Video Card' option. If you know what kind of video card you own, select
the appropriate type. If you do not know what kind of card you have, or do
not see your card listed, select the 'AutoDetect' option. If you know your
card supports VESA, but AutoDetect does not determine you have it, you may
need to install a VESA driver (consult your video card manual).
If you choose to setup GoCD with your favorite GIF viewer, then press 'Alt-S'
and select 'External GIF Viewer'. You will then be prompted to enter the
complete path and executable name of the program you want to use. For
example, if you like CSHOW and it was stored in the C:\UTILS subdirectory you
would enter: 'C:\UTILS\CSHOW.EXE'.
Windows Version The setup for the Windows version is identical to the DOS
version except that you may use either a DOS or Windows external viewer.
General Operation
Once GoCD is setup, it is extremely easy to operate. Use the up and down
arrow keys to move about the directories. To view something, just press
enter on the filename. To copy a file off the CD-ROM, just hit 'C' while the
select bar is on the filename. It will open a box and ask you where you want
to copy the file.
Hints & Tips
GoCD remebers the last subdirectory you were in before you quit, so don't be
surprised when you don't find yourself in the top directory.
The Windows and DOS versions of GoCD use different external viewers.
To increase the speed at which Windows GoCD views GIFs, use an external
Windows GIF viewer like WinGIF - that way it won't have to load as much each
time you view a picture.
If you are going to use an external Windows GIF viewer, make sure your copy
of Windows is setup for 256 or more colors so that you get the full range of
colors from the GIF files.
GoCD uses your HD as a place to store temporary files created when you do a
ZIPview. GoCD may not run correctly if you are low on space on the hard
drive you installed it onto.
GoCD was written so that if you selected a ZIP file that had a GO.BAT file in
it, the batch file would be executed (for viewing the animations).
Unfortunatly, there are several other ZIP files (non-animations) that contain
GO.BAT files - you will not be able to view those ZIP files from within GoCD.
